TRIP INFORMATION - DESCHUTES RIVER

Single day float trips —

Bischof's Flyfishing offers half day (4-5 hours) or full day (8-9 hours) guided fly fishing float trips on central Oregon's Deschutes River. All single day float trips originate in the town of Maupin which gives us access to roughly 30+ miles of prime trout and steelhead fly fishing water. Maupin is conveniently located close enough to the Portland metropolitan area, Hood River, The Dalles, Sunriver, Bend, and Redmond that a person(s) can leave any one of these cities, fish the Deschutes, and still make it back in the same day.

Between four and seven river miles are generally floated on a single-day fishing trip. The drift boat provides comfortable transportation and safe and easy access to wade and fish the rivers islands, gravel bars, ledges, and both banks. Single or half day float fishing trips are offered year round.

Overnight guided float trips —

Our guided overnight trips are one of the best ways to fish some of the Lower Deschutes' most productive fly fishing water. These trips cover 20-30 miles of river which are boat-in-only sections of the Deschutes providing our guests the opportunity to be on some of the most famous fly water in Oregon. You can choose from either our one-night two-day overnight trip or our two-night three-day overnight trip. We supply all meals and camping equipment. After a full day of fishing you and your guide arrive at a primitive camp site that has been set up hours before and are greeted by the camp host/cook. Our camp has your tent(s) set up, camp kitchen and dinging/lounging area ready to go and dinner on the grill. Your job on these trips is to relax and fish.

Overnight trout trips begin in May and continue through October. By July inquire about the possibility of a trout and steelhead combo, which is available through October. Heated wall tents serve as the lounging and dining area in early spring and late fall.

What to bring —

Every angler needs to purchase an Oregon fishing license prior to the start of the trip. Anglers headed out on steelhead trips will need to have a salmon steelhead tag. Licenses and tags are available at most sporting good stores such as WalMart, Fred Meyer, Bi-Mart, etc. If possible, try to obtain your license the day before you meet up with your guide.

Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, rain jacket, camera, film, and binoculars are all useful items to bring with you. Waterproof bags and/or boxes will be provided for you to safely store your valuables while you are on the boat.

You may bring chest high waders, wading belt, wading staff and felt bottom wading boots (cleated boots are fine to wear in our boats).

Trout fisherman will find #3 - #6 wt. fly rods, reels, and floating lines most useful on the Deschutes.

Steelhead fisherman should bring a #6, #7, or #8 wt. single hand or spey rod equipped with a matching reel and floating line. Sink tips are useful at times.

Flies and leaders will be provided by your guide. Feel free to contact us for advice on flies to bring if you want to use your own.

We will be happy to provide you with any of the items listed above that you may not own or cannot bring.

Guests participating in overnight trips will be sent an additional overnight checklist.
